Back From the Future: 90's Style

Ever notice how many trends come back to haunt us from the past? When our mothers excitedly tell us that they wore that in high school...

Anyway! I've been noticing that a lot of trends that were big in the 90's are making a comeback! To me it seems a little soon but I'm not against it! I loved being a child in the 90's with the colorful jumpsuits, bibs, and jean fashion. And with the Chambray shirts back in fashion, it was only a matter of time before the crop top made its stylish way back.

Now I never remember wearing crop tops personally, but I do remember seeing them on TV. From 90210 to Full House, the crop top was everywhere. Luckily in those days only those who could pull it off, wore them. These days it seems to be for the willing...or at least for a Walmart fashion show. Although, in the photos below, the current crop top trend is a bit more fashionable than in the 90's. Instead of just being what the young starlets were wearing, they are hitting the red carpets and launch parties. You tell me, who wore it better: 90's or Today?

Here are the 90's crop tops:

2014 Oscar Fashion

Lets be honest, the 2014 Oscars Fashion was not brilliant. There were the typical red carpet royalty dresses, but I felt that the statement necklaces and just jewelry in general were lacking. Some of the dresses, although fabulous, were missing that one piece that would send it over the top!

Notice the lack of jewelry? Apparently Navy Blue was the color to wear! And may I just point out the obvious, Lupita totally looked like Cinderella! After her amazing Oscar speech, she had to of felt it as well. What was Glenn thinking? She looks like she found this dress at a thrift store! I know we haven't seen Anne Hathaway in a minute, but I feel like I could have found this dress at Ross. I really liked how Lady Gaga dressed up! It's nice to see her as Donatella's twin...I mean the face of Versace.

What did you think about the Oscar fashion?

Hungry? Try some CHANEL!

Being the huge Chanel fan that I am, I was super excited for the new Fall/Winter 2014 Fashion Show! I pulled it up and noticed that runway was designed like a supermarket. An extremely colorful supermarket...one that I would expect to see in Rainbow Brite land...

Back on topic! An edgy outfit started the fashion show and then came the classic Chanel we know and love. Personally, I loved how they did the fashion show. It put off an extraordinarily real woman vibe for Chanel, except instead of actually grocery shopping (which I completely dread), you're picking up a new Chanel (which I could totally live with). Most designers keep runways supremely high fashion, whereas this mixed in the high end fashion with a touch of realism. So, the next time you're thinking about grocery shopping, just channel the Chanel fashion show and go to Rodeo Drive. I think I'll try this one on my hubby. He can live off of bagels and cream cheese, right?

Here is the edgy outfit which started the show. Love the pink!

Who wouldn't want all those white Chanel bags over white walmart grocery bags

Fashion Icons or Iconic Fakes?

In our society, we tend to be fascinated with celebrities. They are constantly being watched and judged to the point that we see them at their best and worst. So with this as a known fact; like when you become a celebrity and know you have paparazzi following you, why in the world do you wear fake designer handbags? Hello! You are being followed everyday and think people aren't going to find more ways to put you down? Maybe the celebs are just missing some street smarts, or plain don't care. If you have the money to spend on a real designer bag, then why buy fake ones?

A rumor floating around is that the celebs stylists are getting fake designers and pocketing the left over money. Seems unlikely, otherwise there would be a huge scandal with celebrity stylists and plenty of new job spots available. It's even possible that the celebs are just trying to keep up with an image...even if it's a fake image. But if you're spending up to $500 on a fake and could get a real one (probably smaller) for the same price, why would you settle for the cheaper bag? Feels like a PR stunt to me (much like a celebrity marriage these days) because there is no such thing as bad press...

Oh Bethenny....(Rumor is that she has someone come to her house and drops $1,500 for "high quality Hermes Birkin bags)

Denim on Denim: Fashion or Faux Pas?

Anyone else still see Chambray shirts as a fashion faux pas from the 90's? I'll be honest, it was my first thought when I started to see the trend pop up in stores. I mean, wasn't that the grunge style as explained in the movie, "Clueless?" Putting the past aside, the Chambray shirt is becoming the next waspy fashion must have. Here are some of my favorite ways to wear Chambray.

Now onto the next part of Chambray. Chambray on Jeans? Yes. Even I was a bit weary of putting denim on denim, but when you mix the different shades on denim as well as adding some color to the outfit, it truly brings it all together! Take a look.

Courtney Wore Chanel Inspired?

Let me first say that I love the blog, What Courtney Wore. Courtney Kerr is very fashion forward and puts the class in Texas (I can say this because my husband is from Texas!) Anyone interested in fashion should check out her blog and her TV show, "Courtney Loves Dallas."

It should be mentioned that some photos have surfaced on Kerr's blog that show a new and fun Chanel Lego Phone case! A frenzy broke out with multiple questions on where she got her phone case. I just knew I had to have it. After some research and a trip to the Chanel store, I found out that it is Chanel Inspired...which in not so many words, means fake.

Kerr has also taken the "inspired" phone case all the way to New York Fashion Week. Takes some guts if you ask me! Even though I love the phone case, I'm surprised that someone hasn't called this out yet. So to all the fans who wanted to know where to get it, one word: Etsy.

Red Valentino's Disney Side

Red Valentino is showing their "Disney Side!" As announced by Disney Style, Red Valentino is releasing a chic Snow White inspired Ready to Wear Fall/Winter 2014 collection. The collection showcases the "it" color of the season, Cobalt Blue, with a dash of Red and Yellow. Adding classic bows, stripes, and adorable clutches, Red Valentino has captured The Fairest One of All, Snow White, in a modern way (and not just by the Pop Art Andy Warhol inspired backgrounds.)
